In his talk, Frank will introduce us to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (‘the Ocean Decade’). Proclaimed in 2017 by the United Nations General Assembly, the Ocean Decade seeks to stimulate ocean science and knowledge generation to reverse the decline of the state of the ocean system and catalyse new opportunities for sustainable development of this massive marine ecosystem. The vision of the Ocean Decade is ‘the science we need for the ocean we want’.

Frank Schweikert is a journalist, biologist and speaker – for the protection of our ocean and the mitigation of climate change.

He is the founder and director of the German Ocean Foundation, president of the German Marine Litter Association, vice president of the German Society for Marine Research, and rises global attention for the largest ecosystem on our planet. As a new member of EU Mission Board for Oceans and Waters, he is increasingly campaigning for our oceans as a Common Heritage of Humanity.
